What is the climate and air quality like?
The climate of China is very much like that of North America. From Hainan Island in the south "China’s Hawaii" to areas like Beijing and Harbin in the north - more like Quesnel and northern BC. Shanghai is in the East-Central part of China. The winter temperature tends to be like Vancouver, but without central heating in the homes sometimes it is difficult to get really warm. The summer can be very hot and humid. The average temperature in the winter is between 0-6 degrees where the summer is usually between 28 and 33 degrees. Shanghai suffers from pollution and there are days when air quality is a concern in the city. Where the school is located (an hour outside the city centre), the pollution is reduced and not really a problem.
