What happens if I need to talk to the Canadian Embassy or Consulate?

Canada's embassy is located in the capital city Beijing. Canada has four consulates with a full range of services located in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Chongqing and in Shanghai itself. All teachers must register with the Canadian Consulate so that in the event of serious injury or death while traveling the next of kin can be notified. You may register on line or by going to the Canadian Consulate located in the Shanghai Centre on Nanjing Xi Lu (where the Portman Hotel is located).

There is a “Canadian Club" in Shanghai that is called the Canuck Connection that meets once per month at various locations in Shanghai.

Chinese is a written language with many spoken dialects. Putonghua (Mandarin) is the official dialect in China and is the one most widely spoken throughout the country. There are many, many regional dialects spoken throughout China as well.
